Spark plug wires impact engine starting, driveability, fuel efficiency, vehicle emissions, and onboard engine computers including vehicle electronics and audio systems. They do this by channeling electrical energy from the coil to the distributor and from the distributor to the spark plugs. That process furnishes a spark to the correct cylinder at the correct time to ignite a fuel/air mixture.

Perform preventative maintenance on your spark plug wires by visually inspecting them for deterioration. Look for cracks in the wires or surface wear. Be sure to check that all spark plug wire connections are tight and wipe off any dirt and grease which may have accumulated.

A diagnostic problem with the spark plugs, wires, or ignition coil will cause the illumination of the malfunction indicator light or MIL light (commonly known as the check engine light). A compete diagnostic evaluation by a certified technician is recommended if the check engine light comes on.
