The filter helps capture and retain unwanted particles in your oil, preventing damage or premature wear to the engine. Whenever your engine’s oil has reached the OEM recommended service interval, it’s best to also replace the oil filter to ensure maximum engine protection and filtering performance.
The OEM filter has been rigorously tested and validated to ensure it provides a specific level of performance and protection for the overall engine system. Choosing to use a non-genuine filter can lead to decreased levels of protection against wear or higher levels of flow-restriction, contributing to parasitic loss of engine performance and fuel economy.
Mopar® typically recommends changing the oil after 15,000 miles. If you drive infrequently or make short trips, you may need to change your oil more frequently.
The most common type of motor oil is conventional, or regular oil, which is derived from petroleum and is often the cheapest option. Synthetic oils start with the same oil base but are further refined to reduce molecule size and ensure “slipperiness”. Synthetic oils are more expensive than regular oil, but they also need to be changed less frequently, and provide more protection under heat stress, and flow easier during cold starts helping reduce engine wear, mitigating the cost difference.
Previous generation Ram trucks with the 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6 engine utilized a metal spin-on oil filter, but the 2025 models will now be equipped with a cartridge-style oil filter element. The change to an oil filter housing with serviceable filter cartridges reduces environmental waste and lends to a cleaner service event with the top-load cartridge.
It is recommended that Lube and Fuel filter service be conducted at the same time. The new orientation of the two-stage fuel filter on the engine provides access to housing where both cartridges can be replaced at the same time as the lube filter. You should always consult your owner’s manual to see what the manufacturer recommends for your specific vehicle.

The change to a dual fuel filter housing with serviceable filter cartridges reduces service time with both stage 1 and stage 2 fuel filters in the same location. This results in greater ease of service with cartridge style top-load and faster service change moving from chassis-mounted bottom load to engine.
The best way to assure that you are installing the correct Certified Mopar® filter is to buy from an authorized Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram or Fiat® dealership.
To assure you have a Certified Mopar® filter, always verify that the part numbers on the filter and packaging match. Look for any misprinted logos, or missing branding identification.
